Warming Up and Stretching Before Workout
July 24, 2008
To reduce injury and promote circulation it is a must that the body is warmed and stretched. This process does not have to consume much time. A five to ten minute warm-up would be sufficient. You may choose a light five-minute run on the treadmill or a low intensity Stairmaster warm-up. Also include a simple five-minute angel and hamstring stretch. The warming up of the body turns on the body’s metabolism and sends blood throughout the muscular system, which will decrease the chances of injury. Stretching loosens tightened muscles, tendons, and ligaments. By stretching the muscles before you workout this will ensure that you have a more efficient and productive workout giving you better results. Just as it is important to prepare the body at the start of your workout, it is imperative to stretch at the end of your work out, so that the muscular system will cool off and repair itself in preparation for the next workout.
